Will I be able to select my plate numbers as with other specialty tags?

Each Guardian ad Litem plate will come with a new generic state-assigned number. The Guardian ad Litem specialty plate can be personalized with up to five letters. If you currently have a personalized plate (five letters or less), you may continue to use the same personalization.

Can I customize my Guardian ad Litem Specialty License Plate?

Yes, you may have up to 5 characters with no additional space or hyphen.

Will I have to retain my current plate number or can I chose at a later time prior to plate production?

While you will not be able to order a personalized Guardian ad Litem specialty plate until they go into production, you can reserve your specific configuration on a different plate now and swap it to a Guardian ad Litem plate once they are available. Keep in mind there are extra fees for personalization of Florida plates.

Can I transfer my current custom plate configuration to a Guardian ad Litem Plate?

Yes, you will be able to maintain your current custom configuration on the Guardian ad Litem plate, for an additional DMV charge.

Is this offered with a handicap option, as my current plate has the handicap signal on it?

Specialty plates are not offered with the handicapped symbol since Florida has a special designated handicapped plate. Now, if you would still like to get the Guardian ad Litem plate, you can always use the Handicapped placard, which does the same thing as the plate.

Is the Guardian ad Litem Specialty Plate available for motorcycles?

Unfortunately, the Guardian ad Litem Specialty tag is not currently available for motorcycles.  In order for them to be available on motorcycles there has to be specific language written in the bill.  It may be something for us to consider doing in the future.

What happens after I purchase the Guardian ad Litem license plate voucher?

After 3,000 vouchers have been sold, production of the plates will begin. When they are manufactured, they will be sent to the county tax collector offices and will be distributed to the license plate agencies in their county.  After the specialty license plates are shipped, the department will send a letter to all the Receiving Customers. The letter will provide instructions on how to redeem their voucher.

Who benefits from the Guardian ad Litem License plate?

Funds raised through the sale of this new specialty license plate shall be distributed to the Florida Guardian ad Litem Foundation, Inc., a direct-support organization and a nonprofit corporation.  The funds will be used in this state to support the mission and efforts of the Statewide Guardian ad Litem Program to represent abused, abandoned, and neglected children and advocate for their best interests; recruit and retain volunteer child advocates; and meet the unique needs of the dependent children served by the program.

What happens if for some reason the 3,000 pre-sale requirement is not met?

If the plate fails to meet the presale voucher requirements the plate will not be manufactured and the customer may apply the pre-sale voucher towards a different specialty license plate or apply for a refund for the specialty license plate fee only. Form HSMV 83363 is used to apply for a refund.
